Autumn FOCT News

In the 10 years since Friends of Camp Turner began, never have we been as blessed as we were this summer to partner up with the “Friends of Father Gary Bagley”. This group helps to keep Fr. Gary’s youth ministry alive by sponsoring a golf tournament each summer. With the participation of FOCT, this was their most successful event since they began. The proceeds from this event are donated to a youth charity that Fr. Gary was involved with. We are fortunate to have been chosen as their recipient this year. I hope members of FOCT can join in the fun next year and every year. We will keep a link to the Friends of Father Gary web-site on our web-site. And to Howard and Bea Bagley, parents of Fr. Gary and the Friends of Fr. Gary, we thank you.

Hello Friend of Camp Turner,

The Bagley Open is an annual golf tournament and dinner held in memory of Fr. Gary Bagley who spent over 25 years ministering to the needs of young people in Youth Department for the Diocese of Buffalo. Each year, the organizing committee picks a charity to support to continue the spirit and works of Fr. Gary. This year, the committee has chosen “Friends of Camp Turner.” “Friends of Camp Turner” in a not-for-profit organization that provides scholarship assistance to make sure that no camper is ever turned away from a Camp Turner experience because of need.

We are writing to ask you to consider participating and or supporting this year’s tournament. For an affordable $65, you can enjoy nine holes of golf at Deerwood Golf Course in North Tonwanada, a delicious steak dinner at Classics V Banquet facilities, and a polo shirt. You do not have to play a round to attend! Dinner and polo shirt packages are available for just $45. Also, come meet our special guest emcee, Howard Simon from WGR 550’s “The Howard Simon Show”.

Beyond golf an dinner, we have program sponsorship opportunities at the $25, $50 and $100 levels. We have Hole Sponsorships at the $200 level, Dinner Sponsorships at the $500 level and Major Sponsorships at the $1,000 level. We are also in need of door prizes and gift baskets for our fabulous basket raffle. Can you help?

The Bagley Open is a “Duffer’s” Tournament (you do not have to be any good at golf) whose aim is to have fun and raise funds. 100% of all proceeds will go directly to providing camping scholarships. In today’s economy, the need has never been greater – won’t you please consider supporting us?

For more information, registration and sponsorship forms, please look at: www.TheBagleyOpen.blogspot.com or call the Diocesan Youth Department at: 716-847-8789. Play a round, have some fun, and help send a kid to camp – where can you find a better deal?

Message from the Director

Dear Friends of Camp Turner,

2008 has been a really nice year.  Summer camp tied our high water mark for campers in this century, and WinterCamp reached an all time high with 81 campers for the session between Christmas and New Year’s.  We hosted more than 30 rental groups, including conferences, family reunions, youth group retreats and corporate parties.  And most importantly, thanks to your membership and generosity, we were able to provide over $5,600 in camperships to campers.  In fact, NO campers were turned away this year for lack of funding, thanks to you!

In 2009 Friends of Camp Turner is helping with several improvements to the camp:
—installation of WI-FI, and video projection capabilities in the Dining Hall to better serve our rental groups
—construction of an orienteering course
—and most importantly, the beginning of plans for a climbing wall.

The summer schedule, staff application, and camper registration forms are now all available on the website, www.CampTurner.com.  I appreciate your assistance with recruitment of qualified staff and campers.  Your recommendation is always our best advertising.

Please remember Camp Turner is available year round for rentals now – even summer weekends.  We can host your event, family reunion, reception, party, youth group retreat, scout troop, or corporate gathering.  Some programming options are even available.  Catered and non-catered packages available.  General information on the website, call for a specific quote.

Thank you for remaining a part of the Camp Turner family.  You are appreciated, and welcome to stop by anytime in the off season, and by appointment in the summer time.

Honoring God in the children confided to our care,
I remain,
John Mann
